Water is a powerful force that can cause catastrophic flood damage to building structures and assets. Water damage can be caused by anything from a long term leak, an escape of water or a wide area flood.
The extent of damage can vary enormously too, and can depend on a number of factors:
-
Source of water (e.g. "clean water" internal leak or "black water" external contaminated flood water)
-
Type of incident (e.g. "vertical ingress" from a storage tank or ‘horizontal ingress’ from external flooding)
-
Building fabric / construction type
-
Type of items / assets affected
-
Duration of the incident
-
Environmental conditions (e.g. external temperature)
Understanding just how properties and contents are affected by water damage and how they respond to drying is critical. Incorrect assessment and monitoring and inadequate or incorrectly installed drying equipment can result in inefficient and prolonged drying programs generating additional costs and delays. In extreme circumstances it can also cause additional and avoidable damage.
Water Damage & Flood MITIGATION – What to Do:
-
Turn off source of water if possible, but if you are unsure or it seems hazardous, please wait for a professional to assess the damage
-
Turn off electricity if safe to do so
-
Safely document all damage thru photos/video if possible
-
Try to contain the water within the affected area
-
Carefully remove as much standing water as possible through mopping or blot drying with a towel
-
Lift drapes off the floor by looping them through a coat hanger and hanging them on the curtain rod
-
Remove all area rugs from wet floors
-
Turn on the ventilation system to air out the affected area
-
Relocate all artwork and pictures to a safe, dry place
-
Open all closet doors, furniture drawers, and luggage to help dry them out
-
Remove wet fabrics and hang them up to dry right away
Water Damage & Flood Cleanup – What NOT to Do:
-
Do not turn off water if it is dangerous to do so
-
Do not use your vacuum cleaner to remove standing water
-
Do not place any newspaper on the floor
-
Do not enter any room with electrical or structural damage
-
Do not lift up any carpeting that is tacked down
-
Do not hesitate to call a water restoration professional
-
Do not try to clean up any sewage water yourself
-
Do not use any electrical appliances while standing on wet floors or carpets
-
Do not use heat to facilitate the drying process as this can encourage mold growth.

We used their services after extensive damage from Ida, and consider ourselves lucky that we did. Pure professionalism from the owners, DJ Fernandez and Scott Duplantier. They only took out the walls, floors and ceilings that needed to be removed, and documented every step along the way.
Our insurance company paid them every dime they billed because they didn't go in willy nilly and just start ripping out walls. The adjuster, who has 40+ years of contracting experience, was impressed. How often do insurance companies just pay without a fight? That right there says a lot about the quality of their work.
Our general contractor, also with 40+ years of experience, was also impressed, and will recommend them to others in the future. And he doesn't impress very easily.
If you use these gentlemen, you will not be disappointed. I guarantee.

Water Removal Pros went above and beyond to help my family in our time of need. Our home suffered extensive damage from Hurricane IDA. We had water in the attic, walls, cabinets, and even the sub-floors. They handled all aspects of removing wet and molded material, as well as executing an extensive mold remediation process. What was especially impressive was their ability to communicate every aspect of what was happening, when, where, and why. They took the time to explain and document all damage and included us in any decision-making.This empathic approach not only comforted us, but saved us money. There were multiple investigations before work began. This allowed for consideration of what could be saved versus demolished. It was obvious that they were there to help and not charge us for things that didn't need to be remediated.I had previously been dealing with other contractors and only found frustration. Hiring WRP was the best decision we made. Because of their hard work and attention to detail, our house is in a safe place where no more mold damage can occur. I highly recommend hiring these fine folks.

DJ and Scott are the best! We had significant water damage to our hardwood floors in an old uptown NOLA house. DJ, Scott and the crew did an amazing job of assessing the damage and prescribing solutions that minimized unnecessary demolition to our new kitchen. Other companies gave outrageous quotes and wanted to demo everything to run up cost. Water Removal Pros took the time and care to understand the root cause and address it.I highly recommend Water Removal Pros over any of the larger National brands as they understand the unique challenges facing Louisiana and Mississippi. They are honest, empathetic, and highly skilled and professional.

This is by far one of the best companies I have ever worked with and not just in this field. The genuine care, customer service, thoroughness and follow up makes WRP and their leadership team so incredible to work with in desperate times of need. They were there for us immediately and every step of the way. Chose them for personal or business needs. They are the best. Thank you
